The Dwelling Place strives to develop a board of directors that reflects the diverse community it serves in regards to race, socioeconomic status, and gender. According to an American Community Survey conducted in 2019 by the US Census Bureau, Winston-Salem is 60 percent white, 38 percent African American, and 2 percent “other.” We strive to elevate female and nobinary voices and lift up leaders who have lived the experience of homelessness. Therefore, The Dwelling Place will strive for similar representation in the make-up of the Board of Directors. As demographic shifts occur, we will make adjustments to our Board composition accordingly.

All staff are required to complete Boundary and Diversity training as well as Implicit Bias training. Though not required, the same opportunities are offered to and encouraged for the Board of Directors.
